Relativity

We look up and talk to God

as if there’s an ‘up’ to look to.

We look out and deny gods

as if we can’t deny our substance.

A comet shoots across the sky,

but it’s neither shooting

nor traveling through sky

nor are we still as it moves.

We talk of gravity bending space

but don’t know what gravity is

and don’t know what space is,

so how can we know what’s bending?

We talk of sadness bending will

but don’t know what sadness is

and don’t know what will is,

so how can we know what’s bending?

I place a cold cup on a table,

wondering where the time has gone.

And then I stop wondering

when I realize I don’t believe in time.

I sip from a steaming cup,

wondering if I believe in time.

And then I stop wondering

when I realize the time has gone.

Truth is a matter of perspective.

A perspective of truth is matter.

Only one truth do I now feel.

We’re transfixed by where we come from.

That’s why we stand on land

and stare at the water.

That’s why we lay on grass

and stare at the stars.

It’s why we vigorously search,

hoping for answers.

It’s why we live in Hell,

hoping for a Heaven.
