Don’t Open The Door

In a dreamwake state
unfamiliar unconscious
paints over reality
with a familiarity
I simply don’t remember

look through the keyhole
see them there

The fingers of my mind
lose their grasp on reality
dissipating to vapor
in the outstretched glow
of infinite reflections

look through the keyhole
see them gone

One delusion gives way
to another and another
takes its place in unrest
tickling beneath my eye
as sleep escapes me here

light dances under the door
see them there

In neither reality
exists comfort and rest
in nonexistent arms
embracing away nightmares
through shattering rain

light freezes under the door
see them gone

For the nightmare is
the reality I’m in
whichever it may be
no different to me
in a dreamwake state

peer through the glass
see them there

As my ghost walks the moonlight
bathing emptiness
in illusions of watchful
shadowy figures
waiting at my doorstep

peer through the glass
see them gone

They’ll come around again
they always do.
