Poetry

Hole

the unraveling stars illuminate our darkest skies
with intensity and heat and frictional waves
that encircle our deepest centers
without wind to guide or storms to push
yet are storms we understand not
and lead us not
into our temptations
or into their temptations
the lengths of which we cannot fathom
for we keep only a distance we can grasp
and pray that what we see not
what escapes our visual grasp
keeps its distance from us
and allows us
to admire its unquenchable appetite from afar
as we listen close but struggle to hear
its crawl to us
to feed its rumbling tummy
as nothing can escape
what it chooses
to eat
while it never complains that its belly is not full
